Job Description

The Investment Accountant Temporary is responsible for the financial accounting and reporting of the operations of real estate properties acquired and/or developed through the company’s various investment/fund vehicles. This primarily involves review/validation of property GL’s maintained by third parties. These may include office, multi-family, industrial, retail, hotel and mixed-use properties. This position works closely with the members of the Fund Accounting team that are responsible for the accounting and reporting of the investment entities and fund vehicles that own interests in the real estate properties on which the Investment Accounting team is reporting.


  • Assist with coordinating audit requests and track open items

  • Assist with preparing month end reporting packages for review

  • Review gain calculations at month end to ensure they are consistent with the general ledger

  • Reivew and approve vendor approvals in Yardi

  • Review and approve receipt batches

  • Review and approve tenant statements

  • Review and approve billbacks

  • Review AVID invoices

  • Review lease abstracts

  • Review and post straight-line rent

  • Review insurance accruals/prepaids

  • Review and approve monthly property tax accruals

  • True-up property taxes at year end

  • Reconcile WIP accounts

  • Prepare entries to capitalize projects in progress

  • Review cash trial balances and prepare entries to reclass non-cash basis items

  • Review WIP on FV properties and reclass amounts as necessary

  • Prepare Utility accruals

  • Prepare CAM true-ups


Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to commit to a temporary role for an anticipated duration of four to six months

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting

  • 1+ year of relevant commercial real estate accounting experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Yardi experience preferred; or other corporate accounting software systems

  • Joint venture/partnership accounting experience preferred

  • Ability to meet several daily deadlines in a fast paced work environment
